Operation Backpack is a weekend feeding program working to alleviate childhood hunger in Topeka and to encourage children in need.  To ensure the nutritional needs of children are met when school is not in session, the program provides a small sack of food for youth to take home for the weekend.  Each Weekend Food Sack contains a two day supply of nutritional, kid-friendly snacks and single serving size food items that are easy for youth to prepare.

Topeka North Outreach volunteers will distribute Summer Food Sacks to eligible children age 1-18, who live in North Topeka and Oakland each Friday at two Summer Pick-up Sites:

Garfield Community Center, May 31 - July 26, between 11:30 - 5:30 p.m. OR

Logan Elementary School, June 7 - 26, between 11 am - 12 noon.

Eligibility will be determined based on family need and availability of program funds.  PRIORITY DETERMINATION WILL BE GIVEN TO: single working parents, foster/adoptive parents, grandparent parents, and disabled parents.
